REQUIRED CONTINUING EDUCATION IN CALIFORNIA:
Real Estate Brokers, Salespersons & Mortgage Brokers are all required to earn continuing education credits.
NOTE: As a licensed real estate broker, you may engage in mortgage brokering without any additional license. A real estate broker may engage in a variety of real estate related activities including residential home sales, mortgage brokerage, and property management, among others.
INITIAL TRAINING:
All real estate brokers and mortgage brokers prior to licensing must have completed the 8 required college-level courses and have a minimum of 2 years experience as a full-time licensed salesperson is required. In lieu of the two-year salesperson experience, an applicant with a four-year degree from an accredited college is exempt. ( Except for salespersons renewing an original license for the first time*) initially renewing a license must complete 45 clock hours of DRE-(Department of Real Estate) approved continuing education consisting of:

Four separate three-hour courses in the following subjects: Ethics, Agency, Trust Funding Handling, and Fair Housing
|
|
A minimum of 18 clock hours of consumer service or consumer protection
|
|
The remaining 15 clock hours related to either consumer service or consumer protection
|
*Salespersons renewing an original license for the first time need only complete the four separate three-hour courses in Ethics, Agency, Trust Fund Handling, and Fair Housing.
SUBSEQUENT RENEWALS:
On or before the 4 th year of your initial renewal date. For subsequent renewals, all real estate brokers, sales persons and mortgage brokers must complete 45 clock hours every 4 years of DRE (Department of Real Estate) approved continuing education consisting of:

One six-hour course that covers the four mandatory subjects (Ethics, Agency, Trust Funding Handling, and Fair Housing)

At least 18 clock hours of consumer protection courses and the remaining 21 clock hours in either consumer service or consumer protection courses
